Gardening

After studying horticulture at Hadlow College and receiving an honours degree in Landscape Design (1st) from Greenwich University, Nick has worked across many sectors of horticulture over the last 30 years, including nursery stock production, garden management, garden design, teaching, public speaking, horticultural consultancy, writing and broadcasting.

He has designed and managed numerous gardens throughout the UK, Spain, South Africa and Australia. And created his first Main Avenue Garden at RHS Chelsea Flower Show in 2016 (Silver Gilt).

Nick is also the former Head Gardener at London’s oldest botanic garden – Chelsea Physic Garden, where he spent seven years redesigning and developing the site and its plant collections for a contemporary audience.

Garden Writing

Nick’s has worked in horticultural media for 20 years including editing for Garden Answers Magazine and numerous freelance commissions for BBC Gardeners’ World Magazine, RHS The Garden, GYO Magazine, The Kitchen Garden, Amateur Gardening, Garden News, The Daily Mail, The Times and The Telegraph. He currently has regular columns in BBC Gardeners’ World Magazine, Garden News and Grow Your Own Magazine.

Nick’s first book ‘Chelsea Physic Garden – A Companion Guide’ was published in 2014. His second book ‘365 Days of Colour in your Garden’ was published by Kyle Books in 2015 and became a best-seller. His third book ‘Revive Your Garden’ was published in April 2018.

Garden Broadcasting

After presenting on Gardens Wild and Wonderful in South Africa (SABC1) and spending four years as a panellist on BBC Radio Norfolk’s Garden Party Nick became a regular presenter on BBC Gardeners’ World in March 2016. He has also appeared on BBC 2’s Great British Garden Revival and Big Dreams Small Spaces, as well as ITV News and BBC 1’s The One Show, BBC Radio 4’s Food Programme and BBC Radio 2.

Public Speaking

As a dynamic and entertaining public speaker, Nick has lectured at Greenwich University, Chichester College, Gardeners’ World Live, The English Garden School, The Mediterranean Garden Society (Spain), Uppsala Universitet (Sweden), The Hardy Plant Society, The Womens’ Institute, The International Rose Society and numerous garden groups and associations in the UK and Europe.
